Where is Lasara?

History

Once a part of Spanish land grants, Lasara was platted in 1924. The name comes from the first names of Laura Harding and Sarah Gill wives of early settlers. William Harding and Lamar Gill were the husbands and if not for the women, the town might've been named Willam or Wilharlam.

Geography

Lasara is located at 26°27′56″N, 97°54′43″W (26.465449, -97.912001)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), all of it land.

Education

Lasara is within the Lasara Independent School District (Pre-K through 10th Grade). Lasara ISD was approved on March 18, 1925. 

Residents of Lasara ISD that are current Juniors and Seniors in High School attend high school in Raymondville ISD or Lyford CISD. 

In addition, South Texas ISD operates magnet schools that serve Lasara and many surrounding communities.
