Lasara ISD Grant Students

Lasara Independent School District is proud to recognize the outstanding work of its Agriculture (Ag) students who participated in a first-of-its-kind teaching and learning pipeline designed to provide meaningful work-based learning experiences. This opportunity was made possible through a grant initiative in partnership with Communities Foundation of Texas, Educate Texas, and RGV Focus.

Through this program, Lasara ISD Ag students gained hands-on experience by applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects. Working after school alongside Lasara ISD’s dedicated Agriculture teacher, Mr. Requenez, students developed practical skills in construction, teamwork, and project planning—skills that are essential in agricultural and technical career pathways.

Over the course of several weeks, students worked collaboratively to design and build durable picnic tables from the ground up. From measuring and cutting materials to assembling and finishing each table, students demonstrated precision, responsibility, and craftsmanship throughout the process.

Once completed, the picnic tables will be placed in the school pavilion, where they will serve as a lasting contribution to the campus. These tables will provide students with a welcoming space to enjoy lunch, connect with peers, and take pride in a project built by their fellow Lasara Lions.

The grant recognized students’ commitment to learning, skill development, and community impact. Their hard work was celebrated last Friday when participants received their grant checks, marking a meaningful milestone in their educational journey.

Lasara ISD remains committed to providing hands-on, career-focused learning opportunities that empower students to succeed. Projects like this exemplify how work-based learning not only builds skills, but also strengthens school pride and enhances the student experience across campus.
