by Raul Gonzalez

What is the Texas Youth Summit?

The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is inviting high school students to apply to be delegates at the TexasYouth Summit in Austin, TX.  High school students from every state senate district in Texas will convene January 16, 2011, to explore solutions to tobacco related problems.  Two student delegates from each of the state’s 31 state senate districts will be selected by TxSSC to attend the Summit.  Applicants should have a strong commitment to addressing tobacco problems. They must also be willing to work with their local coalitions and community leaders to implement their recommendations when they return from the Summit.

Selected delegates must find local sponsors to cover the cost of transportation to and from Austin, TX as well as a $25 registration fee. All other expenses will be covered by TxSSC. The Summit will provide a forum for young people from all parts of the state to discuss tobacco-related topics
